7 Reasons Storytelling Projects Are Worth Funding

Facebook post imageThe power of personal stories to engage and promote is widely recognised by community organisations, government departments and private business – but mention money and hear the crickets!

Conference presentations and networking conversations often include the need for more key stakeholders to have their voices heard.

However, when it comes to putting adequate, sustainable funding towards storytelling projects, stories are once again reduced to ‘a nice idea if we have any money left over’ or ‘we’ll get our staff to do it if they have any time left’.  I hear the frustration of front line workers and managers all the time.

Are you passionate about empowering your community with a best-practice storytelling project only to be told there’s no budget?

Well here is a quick video that includes wording you are welcome to use in your next grant application – I’ve had clients receive grant funding with this wording.  Others use this list to convince their managers, board members the legitimacy of storytelling projects by using this community engagement sector language.

  5. INCLUSIVITY
  6. CONSCIOUSNESS-RAISING
  7. VALUES THE LOCAL

Gender & Ageing in Australia – Digital Storytelling Projects Challenge

I was fortunate enough to attend COTA Australia’s National Policy Forum 2015 and listen to what the amazing list of speakers and fellow delegates had to say. My mission as always – to listen for clues around current dominant stories and learn whose stories need to be heard. Below you will find a few of…

Personal Empowerment to Political Action Through Digital Storytelling

People often feel anxious when asked to choose ‘one’ story to tell. Usually, this is because they are afraid this ONE video will be seen as their all-defining identity. I like to look at the process as a conversation starter (internal AND external).   Sharing a digital story has the potential to create another story and…
